The Penn Valley Rodeo became a yearly event and continued until 2004, when rodeo attendance declined and the rodeo was discontinued.
At that time, Penn Valley residents and rodeo fans formed the Penn Valley Community Rodeo Association to preserve the tradition of rodeo in Penn Valley.
PVCRA produced its first rodeo in May 2005. It has since added an AMA sanctioned Mule & Donkey Show, the Doc Halstead Open Barrel Race series, and Summer Fun Gymkhana Buckle series.
PVCRA produces quality family entertainment in the western tradition with two nights of pro rodeo, Friday and Saturday, followed by the Penn Valley Family Rodeo on Sunday morning.
For the first time in PVCRA history, the rodeo was postponed due to mother nature. Friday May 20th 2016, a rather extreme hail storm followed by heavy rain that flooded our arena and grounds. It was deemed unsafe for the livestock and the competitors and was rescheduled for the next weekend.
